Let’s talk Face Oils

If you have ever watched an Instagram beauty or makeup video chances are you have seen one of these people applying a facial oil before their makeup. As someone that has oily skin I cringed at the thought of adding more oil to my face, but as an esthetician I understand the benefits of them if you use a good oil.

I then set out to find an oil to try, fully expecting to hate it and feel like a greasy monster. I didn’t want to sink a ton of money into because I thought I would try it once and then it would sit under my bathroom sink until it got so old I had to throw it out. Needless to say my expectations were pretty low.

I stumbled upon a brand called Russell Organics on Hautelook (side note, how great is Hautelook?!) they had a great selection of many different oils, some I was familiar with, some I hadn’t the slightest clue as to what the purpose was. After scrolling and scrolling, doing some online research on the benefits of the various choices, I finally settled on one that I was familiar with as I had used shampoos containing this oil. That oil was Argan Oil.

Some of the benefits of Argan Oil are:

  • Reduces Oil Production/Sebum in skin
  • Can help Acne
  • Moisturizes
  • Contains Vitamin E
  • Non-Comedogenic

Those are just a few of the benefits of using the oil on the face. There are many other benefits for using the oil on the hair, the body and even your nails.

I purchased the Russell Organics Argan Oil on Hautelook for $14.99. This was the Hautelook price, I believe the regular price of the oil is about $28.00.

The proper use of this oil is to put it on clean, dry skin, you can even put it on before your moisturizer if you feel like you need an extra boost. I followed the directions and was, as expected, taken back by how oily I felt right after applying the oil. Then I was surprised how that oily feeling went away as the oil soaked into my skin. I went to sleep and woke up the next morning with my skin feeling wonderful. I felt hydrated and my skin felt plump and it seemed like the elasticity was improved overnight. I swear I’m not nuts, this actually happened. I also put this on my lips and that helped with moisturizing my lips, it is also tasteless, so when I lick my lips I don’t get a mouthful of grossness.

This began my love affair with Argan Oil. I understood the obsession with facial oils and have continued to use them.

Once I ran out of the Russell Organics oil I decided I wanted to purchase another one that I didn’t have to purchase online, I did some poking around at Target and found that Shea Moisture had one or $8.99, I picked it up and turned it to look at the ingredients fully expecting to see a list of ingredients. I was shocked that there was only one single ingredient listed ‘Argani Spinosa Kernal Oil’ or Argan Oil. That is key when picking out oils, the pure oils are the best, there are some oils that have a myriad of “good ingredients” which I’m sure are fine but I prefer a pure oil, so I know exactly what I am putting on my skin. I have been using the Shea Moisture brand for a good while now and have had the same benefits as the more expensive oil.

I highly recommend trying out a facial oil. Check out the links below for more information.
